Snow Ice Cream Recipe

I’m in NYC and it’s snowing today. I mean it’s really snowing! We’re hoping (fingers crossed) to see close to 2 feet of snow and you know what that means? It means sledding in Fort Greene Park until we can’t feel our fingers! It means coming home to snuggle under a blanket with hot chocolate! And it means time for Snow Ice Cream!

What recipe can I make with snow?

You need to try Snow Ice Cream once in your life. It’s a magical recipe that can only be made with fresh snow. I know city people are thinking “Pamela, are you serious, you want me to use snow?”. Yes, I do. Find some clean beautiful snow, put it in a pot and rush back to your kitchen to make this! Seriously, the smiles your kids are going to make are going to make this snow day even better. It’s so much fun!

What is Snow Ice Cream made of?

Snow Ice Cream is made with snow, milk, vanilla, sugar and salt. These are 5 simple ingredients you probably have in your kitchen already!

Can I use regular milk for snow ice cream?

Yes, although evaporated milk works best for making it super creamy, you can use 1 1/2 cup of regular whole milk instead. I often do this as I don’t always have evaporated milk on hand.

How to Make Ice Cream

First, run outside and gather 12 cups of fresh, clean snow. Now run back inside and take the snow straight into the kitchen. In a large bowl mix evaporated milk (or whole milk), vanilla, sugar and salt until smooth. Slowly add in your snow until you reach a creamy ice cream consistency. Serve in bowls. Optional: Add rainbow sprinkles or a pinch of cinnamon on top.

What kind of snow do I need?

You want clean, fresh, fluffy snow, ideally that’s just fallen. A tip is to leave a pot or pan outside to naturally catch it, keeping an eye on when it’s filled.

Can you freeze snow ice cream?

Snow ice cream generally does not freeze well so it’s best to eat it right away.
