How to Make Kabobs In The Oven

Hi everyone! It’s so easy to make Shish Kabobs in the Oven!  You don’t need a grill for BBQ kabobs anymore! Let me show you how!  Can you believe it’s almost the end of May?  Pretty soon it’ll be Summer and weekends will be filled with barbecues and picnics!  I love a good barbecue but sometimes it’s hard living in the city.   You either need to live in a building that allows grilling or you need to get to the park early to use one of the grills there.

Shish Kabobs in the Oven

But not to worry – you can get the same barbecue taste inside with these BBQ Sausage Shish Kabobs! I made these because I was craving barbecued meats and veggies on a rainy day in NYC apartment.   They are now a family favorite meal that we have year round!

Sausage Kabobs recipe

Ingredients for this Oven Baked Sausage Kabobs recipe:

1 pound of Sweet Italian Sausage links1/4 cup barbecue sauce1 tablespoon brown sugar1 large green pepper8 ounces of whole mushrooms2 tablespoons olive oilsalt and pepper

You’ll want to preheat your oven to 375 degrees. While your oven is preheating, cut your sausage into 1 inch pieces. Mix your barbecue sauce and brown sugar in a bowl and set aside. Sweet Italian Sausage is a necessity for this recipe.  You’ll want a pound of sausage links that you’ll cut up into about 1 inch pieces for the kabobs.   Mix olive oil, salt and pepper in another small bowl. Add peppers and mushrooms to the bowl, tossing them so the oil coats them.  I love this recipe because it’s so simple to put together!  You can even get creative and use other vegetables, such as onions, eggplant, potatoes, carrots, etc.   The vegetable ingredients in these kabobs are pretty interchangeable depending on the market season, but I find that mushrooms and peppers are always a necessity!  Add Italian Sausage pieces, peppers and mushrooms to stainless steel skewers.  Use a brush to add barbecue sauce to the meat.  My favorite BBQ sauce is homemade but you can use your favorite store bought sauce too! I love when the barbecue sauce gets on the veggies too – I love that smoky taste they get from being oven cooked with the sauce.

How to Cook Kabobs in the Oven

Bake the kabobs for 30-32 minutes at 375 degrees, or until the sausage is slightly browned. And in no time at all, you’ll have barbecue worthy food ready to be enjoyed inside or outside!   Once skewers come out of the oven, they will be hot so be careful!
