Crockpot Recipes

With the temperatures feeling like single digits, I’ve been craving a nice (big!) bowl of warm chili. But without having to put too much energy into it!  That’s when I start looking for dinner ideas that involve my favorite kitchen tool- the crockpot. I decided to up my chili game one notch and create Pamela’s Pork Chili filled with bacon and sausage!  Doesn’t it look delicious? It tastes it too!

To make this pork chili even easier to make on a busy winter day, we’re going to add our all ingredients to the slow cooker. Set it for 6 hours while we go to work, and then come back to a big bowl of tasty, warm chili that your entire family is going to love!  Don’t you love crockpot recipes, where you don’t have to put in too much work and out comes a restaurant quality food?

Pamela’s Slow Cooker Pork Chili

Pamela’s Porky Chili calls for 2 cans of diced tomatoes, 1 can of tomato paste and 2 cans of chili beans.  We like the “Hot Chili Sauce” Chili beans, but you can also get mild if heat isn’t your thing.  I swear though, the “Hot Chili Sauce” variety isn’t THAT spicy and adds a nice touch of spices to the chili.   We also need a green pepper, a red pepper, celery and a onion.  Chop them up! And throw them in your slow cooker! Did I mention that this is one of those crockpot recipes that are so EASY to make? It wouldn’t be called Pamela’s Pork Chili without meat, so let’s bring on the pork!  First up, bacon – use good premium bacon. Believe me, that makes a lot of difference. Cook it on your stove top, preferably in your cast iron skillet because that always makes the best bacon!

Can we all just agree that when it comes to dinner ideas, there’s nothing that beats bacon? Finally, brown a pound of Italian Sausage.  You can get sausage that’s already ground, or you can buy links and remove the meat from the casings.   Throw your bacon and sausage in the slow cooker and then add in all your seasonings.  This chili has a lot of flavor so we’re adding Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, dried oregano, dried basil, sugar, minced garlic, paprika, cumin, salt and pepper! Set your slow cooker to low for 6 hours and get ready to have a grumbling stomach as your kitchen starts to smell like Pamela’s Pork Chili!

Dinner Ideas

All ready everyone – its chili time! Grab a bowl and fill it up with pork chili.  Then add a sprinkle (or 2!) of shredded cheddar cheese on top. I always recommend serving warm chili with some toasty Italian bread.  Now dive into this big bowl of chili and enjoy every bite of it!

I hope you love Pamela’s Pork Chili as much as we do!  Did I mention it freezes great too for make ahead meals? That’s what makes it one of the best crockpot recipes that I have. Enjoy everyone! Also try these low-budget Dinner Ideas under $5 and Easy Ground Beef Chili!
