Storing Leftovers

Store overnight oats in an airtight container and keep in the fridge for up to five days. This means you can easily meal prep on Sunday five overnight oat servings and have them ready for an easy breakfast Monday through Friday! Many opt to use mason jars with lids as storage containers. Are overnight oats healthy? Oats are rich in fiber and protein so they have plenty of nutritious value to offer. They are healthy in themselves but it also depends on what you pair with them to give them flavor.  Why add chia seeds to overnight oats? Chia seeds offer high mucilage fiber content and can absorb liquid up to 10 times their weight! Not only are they healthy but they offer more texture to your overnight oats. In this recipe I use flax seeds but they are interchangeable. You can easily try both! Can you use any oats for overnight oats? No. Do not use quick oats when making overnight oats. It’s best to use plain, old fashioned rolled oats. If you opt to use quick oats, you can expect your overnight oats to be extra soggy and not as appealing. Do you cook oats before making overnight oats? No. In this recipe you will be eating the oats raw after they have soaked in milk overnight. Once they are soaked overnight, you likely won’t even be able to tell a huge difference between cooked and raw. Can I use non-dairy milk? Absolutely. Soymilk, coconut milk, almond milk, oat milk, cashew milk, or hemp milk are all an option. Just pick out your milk of your choice and use the same measurements in the recipe card below!
